HAG Environmental Information

Today we reflect an increased global awareness that the planet we live on has a vulnerable ecological system which will be destroyed unless each and every one of us actively helps to care for and conserve resources. The environmental debate has further made us realize that products are valuable even after they are used, worn out or broken.

Throughout the world there is growing environmental regulation. HÅG are committed to meeting these demands and further wishes to set a good example both through there products and respect for environmental issues

In co-operation with Rohner Textil, HÅG has developed a sustainable design collection based on Climatex® LifecycleTM. Climatex® LifecycleTM is the upholstery of the future. This fabric is an entirely biodegradable and compostable upholstery fabric, manufactured using a waste-minimising process. Climatex® LifecycleTM is the perfect match for all the HÅG products.

Chairs in a Cycle

HÅG's objective is that no HÅG chairs are to end up in waste dumps. Second-hand chairs are often sold or passed on. The company has return systems in Scandinavia and Germany, and believes that active producer responsibility is important. In year 2000, 2500 chairs were returned.

HÅG develop products that contribute to reducing the total use of resources. Products with a long lifespan, high quality and clever construction with few easily replaceable parts are an important contribution to this. The same is true of recyclable materials and efficient return systems.

Redesigned for nature

HÅG designs products so that they can either form part of closed industrial cycles or be returned to the organic cycle of nature.

In 1996 HÅG replaced the virginal plastic in the seat and the back of the HÅG Scio chairs with recycled bottle caps. By doing this we prolonged the bottle cap's life from 14 days to 20 years - and it can be reused over and over! After HÅG had begun making use of the bottle caps, the breweries collected the bottle caps as raw material. After HÅG had led off, other companies started using the recycled material as well.

In 2001 HÅG managed to start a new recycled raw material flow: HÅG initiated the collecting and recycling of used car bumpers and household waste in cooperation with two Swedish companies.

HÅG have replaced the virginal material with plastic from car bumpers and household waste in HÅG Conventio, the seat in HÅG Capisco and are about to replace even more components. As an extra environmental effort we have as from 01.01.02 simplified the production by using car bumper and household waste in HÅG H03.

HÅG used 200 tons of recycled plastic in 2002. This means that 200 tons of plastic is saved - and is given a new life. The fun part is that the new life is guaranteed to be longer than the original one!

Environmental management

HÅG is ISO 14001 certified and in 1996 we were the first furniture manufacturer in Scandinavia to be EMAS registered. As an EMAS company, HÅG has committed itself to adopting and implementing an environmental policy, regularly reviewing its environmental performance and reporting on this publicly.

35% of our suppliers, including the transportation suppliers, have introduced systems such as EMAS and ISO 14001.
